Let us now acknowledge its existence, together. Let us note that the ... READ MORE

Africa fashion week

Africa Fashion Week

After waiting for years, the first ever Fashion Week Africa took place this past week. The new home for fabulous designers and eager models which ended on Sunday, took on a life of its own. Each show possessed so much grace, and edge that was missing in all of the other fashion week shows. The rich heritage and emotion showed through each garment, as if it were telling a story. The men’s wear collection which could be worn anywhere in The States and be nothing short of GQ and lookbook all mashed together to help make cohesive and awe- inspiring shows.

Fashion organizers are even trying to solidify the city of Lagos as the fifth fashion capital of the world, standing next to Milan, London, New York, and Paris. Rihanna’s rumored beau Dudley O’Shaughnessy as well as Alek Wek took part in walking in what is now history.

Bold fashion statements were made, as well as risk takers. Some designers strayed away from the obvious and what can seem to some as cliché tribal prints, while some embraced it and created art through the culture of it all. Either way the fact that the spotlight is shining on African designers in what is often called a “white industry” is nothing short of brilliant, redefining fashion and rewriting history.

Front Row Reviews: Kanye West Fall/Winter R-T-W Collection 2012

Posted on by Icy Twan in LATEST | Comments Off on Front Row Reviews: Kanye West Fall/Winter R-T-W Collection 2012

With stellar reviews of Kanye West’s last collection seemed to only motivate the Producer/Rapper/Designer to come harder with a second collection. Returning to the stage Kanye offered extraordinary design aesthetics that seemed to be a little unexpected by many critics. Some even say that his designs were “Givenchy-inspired”, but I feel in fashion—all great minds think alike and in West’s defense there’s no secret that he isn’t a big lover of fur and leather. So why not have a collection inspired by what you love most? Just like any other designer, one has to build their brand one collection at a time and Kanye’s is proving that he’s here to come and conquer the fashion game. Game-changer? I think so!

In recap of his show, West incorporated (my favorite fashion term) leather, lamb fur and knee-high boots into this collection to prove to his critics that he is too a Womenswear Designer and he also knows what girls like—and I like!  Saying to a room full of editors, “I got treated unfairly by the press last time. Why would I want to do this?” ,quoted by Kanye after deciding to cancel his pre-show collection preview. I say to West, “when the critics speak inspire to unleash more exquisite pieces!”  Bring more crocodile textiles, more fur (faux or real) and definitely more leather—anything that keep us stylishly-relevant we “true style-seekers” appreciates it dearly and we welcome that you continue to do so!

Kanye is only giving the fashion industry what it’s missing and that’s—edge! He’s keeping the critics talking and entwined in his twisted fantasy of what’s to come!

Down below are pieces of his collection? Do you feel Kanye has a future as Womenswear designer? Let’s just watch…but here’s a few pieces for you to indulge in!

Spring/Summer Trends for Men

Posted on by Icy Twan in LATEST | Comments Off on Spring/Summer Trends for Men

Fellas dont be scared to put a few neons in your closets this spring. Colors were strong at the spring shows one year ago (the clothes that are in store now) but this time, hues that were once accents oranges, greens and mustard — could become the focus of whole collections.

Make sure you have your all white covered as well. The all white parties will be right around the corner once spring hits. Make sure you wear all white where it is appropriate.

Stripe shorts should be replaced with your jean shorts this summer. Always Try something new and more trendy. When pairing the shorts make sure you look great below the belt was a pair of bright chinos. This upcoming season, swap those for shorts that have been updated in an array of stripes, patchworks and see how it can fit inside your wardrobe.

A Girl’s Guide To Trends: Point In Peplum

Posted on by Icy Twan in LATEST | Comments Off on A Girl’s Guide To Trends: Point In Peplum

New fashion always gives us more life. It’s like our bodies builds more metabolism when a new trend is mentioned (the feeling of a true fashionista/fashionisto). Pre-Fall collections recently previewed at NYFW have been more appealing than ever before. Designers are now using their natural instincts and starting again to emphasize more on personal inspiration—getting back to their roots. This truly pleases me!

Fashion houses are getting back to the age were fashion was daring and intriguing—my Point Is In Peplum; a modern trend. When peplum comes to mind in a sense it reminds me of my great-aunts’ favorite fashion staple, but within a second thought, thinking beyond the box, it reminds me of all things chic. I think form and function; a trend that deserves a second life.

Peplum, with it’s retro ancestry, is one of our more sensible-romantic trends—with it’s most recognizable form. Subtle and sweet, this trend luckily plays nice for any body form and is very flattering. In the state of being flattering, peplum is the seasons’ most favorite in trending; fashion is becoming personal. There maybe just a little doubt among some whether peplum will be a fashion hit or miss—will it be? I think with fashion houses having everything to do with this comeback it has staying power!!
