The Dresscamp AW14 show was another over-the-top outing for Toshikazu Iwaya, who has established his brand’s signature fun flavour over recent seasons with vibrant designs and playful styling. Closing Tokyo Fashion Week, this collection was exemplary of the city’s unique fashion sensibility. There was no confusing this for the runways of Paris or Milan, and while it was closer to London, even the British capital would unlikely orchestrate such a specific affair. There was something quite amusing to the pimps and hoes reference, what with the textiles, those hats, the male models’ cartoon-like moustaches and the deliberately overdone hair on their female counterparts. Then there were the more modern gangsta notes, that is the hop-hop inspired streetwear pieces, epitomised in those sweaters with ‘gorgeous W’ branded across their fronts. There was a lot going on and, should the truth be told, it was at times chaotic. However, it was perfect at what it was meant to be and there were numerous great takeaway pieces that would work just as well on their own as when part of this rather particular, exaggerated aesthetic
Rachel Zoe is back as an author as she revealed her second book, titled Living in Style: Inspiration and Advice for Everyday Glamour, via Instagram on Friday morning.
The superstar stylist, who graced the cover wearing a diamond-embellished cream dress, wrote in the caption, “Beyond proud to reveal the cover of my second book Living in Style – been working on this for a long time and could not be more excited for you to read it.”
Living in Style was co-authored by fashion journalist Monica Corcoran Harel, who also contributed to Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant‘s book The Fashion File: Advice, Tips and Inspiration from the Costume Designer of Mad Men.
The 42-year-old designer described her new book as being “filled with never-before-seen personal photos, images of my fashion and beauty icons and contributions from my inspirational friends and mentors on home decor, entertaining and travel.”
Her sold-out grey cotton sweater showcases the brand’s signature multi-colored embroidered tiger motif and pink felt appliquéd logo, a round neckline, and long sleeves with elasticated cuffs.
On Hillary Clinton:
“Let me tell you why Hillary’s going to win. Everywhere you go in this country, you have red and blue. You got the Democrats; you got the Republicans. You got the Bloods; you got the Crips. You know what else is red and blue? Blood. Blood is blue in your body until air hits it, and then it turns red. That means there’s unity. There’s gonna be unity. So when you think about a night where there’s late-night talk-show hosts and it’s mostly women, that’s a different world. Right? A world where 75 percent of the prime ministers and the presidents were women: that’s a different world. That’s gonna happen, and it’s gonna happen when Hillary wins. Because you know what? No matter how staunch of a supporter you are of no-abortion, whatever you are: you’re a woman, and there’s no way in the world you’re going to vote for somebody that’s going to try to tell you what to do with your body. Hillary’s gonna win. Listen, I’m reaching out to her right now. She’s gonna win.”
On the Tea Party:
“The Tea Party guys? The guys with the n***er jokes in 2014? They’re all trying to learn how to do the Dougie. Please. While their daughters are all twerking. Trust me: Miley tells me all the time. Not saying that about Billy Ray, but I’m saying Miley tells me all the time: all those little girls, all those girls with their Republican daddies, they’re twerkin’ somewhere listening to Jay Z and Beyoncé and doin’ the ‘Happy’ dance. And that’s black.”
