What do you think of when winter comes to mind? Well, due to last year’s repetitive snowfalls and extreme temperatures—designers have graced us this season with a range of ingenious combos to keep us stylishly armored from the elements.
This year chunky wools, faux and real fur, cabled knits and quilted fabrics has become very desirable. Designers like Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Hugo Boss, Derek Lam and Michael Kors has all been inspired by the function of fashion this winter. The runways all over are filled with collages of textile and different layering techniques for versatility. The key to this look is to define it with a strong coat and delicate colors for a balanced ensemble. So feminine! To have these statement pieces this season is very vital to ones wardrobe—building with them adds chic character to it.
A chunky wool poncho can go very far when paired strategically. Works with: simple trousers and a luxe fabric top. The cape-like gesture speaks volumes…whatever is underneath must remain neutral. Keep it effortless.
Faux or real fur is so essential for the winter time. Not only does it add warmth to any dressed up or dressed down attire—you stay warm and fabulous at the same time. Very classy! Works with: a playful sleek dress. Too much coverage with any type of fur exhausts any look. Opt for a sensual appeal.
Cabled knits are very universal. If you want to make a statement try a bold chunky sweater, it’s simple but makes a great impact! Works with: narrow-cut tailored trousers and rider boots. Classic!
Different fabrics paired together always has an elegant approach. Silk, chiffon, velvet and lace, to name a few, can add the softest touches to execute the most edgy of uniforms. Concealing the flesh with any of these fabrics is the best plan of attack for any event. Very delicate, soft and desirable. Works with: (as a dress) a blush tweed jacket or black blazer . Instant sex-appeal!!!!!
With the right application of textures creating any outfit this season will come with ease. When pairing a strong coat remember to keep it subtle underneath—you don’t want to take away from any of the fabrics paired together. Keep it cohesive and restrain from overbearing one another. The key to it all, is to dramatize looks using different fabrics. Creating intriguing ensembles always is the best thing to do. Have fun with layering and mixing and matching fabrics. You’re newly adopted style-sense will never be the same. It’s all style made simple.

Designer tells Dazed Magazine that For this collection it was about creating a gang of characters” explains Sahzene Nilhan Durmusoglu Johansen (known as Sn. Luis Borges is a model you should keep a watch on. I always love to see models with a unique look because it makes the clothing look so much more in editorials. Luis started his career during the Fall/Winter 2010 season starring in four campaigns; Etro, Paul Smith, United Colors of Benetton and Tommy Hilfiger. Thats a huge breakthrough because it’s really difficult to book these shows.
