Gabrielle Union looked her absolute best this weekend at the premiere of her new show, “Being Mary Jane” set to air on BET this fall. She graced the red carpet wearing a chic, sophisticated metallic number.

Being Mary Jane is the creation of “Akil Productions’ – Founded by Salim Akil and Mara Brock-Akil . (The Game, Girlfriends). They are a hollywood power couple, forever making leaps and bounds in the present and future of African-American cinema. The story line centers around Mary Jane, a successful anchorwoman struggling to find success in love, family, and matters of the heart. Gabrielle Union and her supporting cast effortlessly delve into the lives of their characters, leaving the audience with a serious level of attachment after only one episode. The casting couldn’t be more spot on, Renowned casting director Twinkie Byrd (Sparkle, Stomp The Yard, Notorious) always delivers!

Members of the cast, and team sat down for a brief talk back after the premiere. Mara Brock-Akil (writer) moved the audience when she eloquently and passionately spoke about the craft of filmmaking. When asked about her creative writing process from an audience member, she simply states “ I start with HONESTY.”

In my honesty, I can say this is going to be a show that will have your eyes glued to your screens. Gabrielle Union does her finest work as an actress. She open heartedly invites us into the private inner world of “Mary Jane”. We laugh with her, we cry for her, we watch her make the same mistakes we have all made, and most importantly we feel.. for her. That is what makes this project a success. The acting is incredible, The direction impeccable, and the story leaves you always wanting MORE!
